Prague-born, London-based dark-pop artist and producer Maella unveils Nostalgic Baby.
Blending Slavic melancholy with London's alt-pop edge, the seven-track EP is a love letter to the overthinkers, hopeless romantics and daydreamers who replay memories like films in their heads and often feel “too much” for the world around them.
Written in her home studio and coproduced with Steven Ansell (Blood Red Shoes), Nostalgic Baby follows a loose emotional narrative through anxiety, fantasy, infatuation and longing before arriving at its central message: perhaps sensitivity isn’t something to outgrow, but something worth celebrating.
Sonically, the EP moves effortlessly between intimate singer-songwriter moments, euphoric alt-pop and lush ambient textures, while a series of VHS-shot visualisers captured across London mirrors the faded, nostalgic lens through which the project unfolds.
Across the record, Maella moves from the anxious escapism of Clouds into imagined romance on Lore, romantic yearning on Dreaming, obsessive devotion on Crying To God, electric anticipation of desire on Silver & Gold, quiet loneliness on When The Lights Go Out before the title track reframes the entire journey as an act of self-acceptance. Rather than apologising for her intensity, Maella embraces it, celebrating nostalgia, sentimentality and emotional excess as sources of beauty rather than flaws.
